Hello,
I'm wondering if there's a big difference between them, I'm going to screw 12mm plywood to studs and I'm wondering what type of screws are needed.
I have a lot of drywall screws left over, don't those work??

Can you please link the type of screw needed for 12mm plywood to approximately 3cm thick stud?

I will have drywall over the plywood afterwards as well...

Thanks for all the answers.

The difference between drywall screws and chipboard screws is that the former has a head that is softly rounded on the underside. This is to prevent it from tearing the paper on the drywall. The latter often has small ribs on the underside of the head to allow it to sink into the board.

You can probably screw plywood with drywall screws. It might not look very neat around the screw head, but if you're going to put drywall on it anyway, it doesn't matter.

However, the opposite does not work. If you try to screw drywall with chipboard screws, the head will eat through the drywall.

Aha ok, thanks for the description.

But what length is needed for 12mm plywood into the studs??
Can you link so one can see what these screws should otherwise look like, from www.byggmax.se

42mm is enough.

OK, thank you so much for your help.

Is it possible to use wood screws in ceiling gypsum? We are going to install ceiling panels that are installed with chips. Can't find gypsum screws with a diameter of 2mm. Thanks for the answer.

But shouldn't the screw hit the battens so that you should use wood screws?

Normally, drywall screws are used when screwing drywall to sparse panels or OSB/plywood.

The screw heads (underside, against the material) differ as well as how far they are threaded, if I remember correctly.
Drywall screws are threaded all the way to the head.
Chipboard/OSB unthreaded near the head with ridges under the head.

I interpreted ceiling panels as ceiling panels to be screwed up with clips on a gypsum ceiling. I wouldn't want gypsum ceiling screwed with 2 mm screws.....

First, we will fasten the ceiling with drywall screws to the wood panel, then the ceiling boards to the drywall. I know it will be double the work, but the panels that were installed were not of even thickness, so the ceiling boards we started to screw up did not turn out well. That's why I asked if you can use wood screws for drywall as I can't find drywall screws that have the diameter that fits the chips.

Screw with wood screws through the drywall up into the sparse panel.

Thanks for the advice but first the plaster must go up. Then the ceiling boards should look for longer wood screws with the diameter that the clips need.
