Drilling the outside of the bathroom wall, how to avoid water pipes?

I was thinking of setting up a coat rack in the hallway with six screws. Unfortunately, the wall is adjacent to a bathroom, and there are water pipes in the wall. You definitely don't want to hit a water pipe, any tips?
