Drill with a smaller pilot bit before moving on to a larger size. Have someone press a board firmly against the intended exit hole also helps. If you want to do it like the pros, rent a concrete hole locator and drill from both sides:

It's a 14mm I'm going to drill, to run through an electric cable, to the parking lot.
Going to try drilling tonight, and have my partner stand and hold against it.
Just hope I have a smaller drill bit so I can pre-drill:/ otherwise it will be a trip to the building supply store.
