We are planning for a major renovation and will convert the house to underfloor heating and replace all water pipes. All the water pipes, as well as the supply and return to the underfloor heating distributor, will be placed in the same location, totaling 11 pipes. I am now trying to figure out how to make a good and neat hole in the concrete slab for all these pipes.

I considered whether the most suitable option would be to chisel out a fairly large and elongated hole in the slab and place all the pipes at a suitable distance from each other, then seal the whole thing with concrete. What do you think, could this be a suitable solution, or should I just rent a heavy-duty drill and hope I don't hit too many reinforcement bars when I drill?

I did the same thing last fall... I drilled a "frame" with 8mm holes first, maybe 2 cm between each and then started chiseling (from the top). I needed a hole about 25x10cm but I noticed when I started chiseling that it wasn't quite possible to reach (close to the wall) with 10 cm so it's maybe 25x15cm.
Then I cut the cast iron I found (2 pieces) with a small angle grinder. File the iron afterwards, they become extremely sharp!

For us, the hole is under the kitchen counter upstairs and in the basement part downstairs, so I've only filled it with construction foam...

Best regards,
Anders

Good to hear that it seems to work the way I had planned.

I will probably seal the hole with concrete because foam insulation does not insulate sound very well, right? The room in the basement will either become a gym or a computer corner, and it would be nice to avoid those sounds reaching the upper floor. As it is now, you could almost detonate a bomb in the basement without being heard upstairs, and that's how I want to keep it.

I would say that foam insulation soundproofs better than concrete... Sound waves are transmitted better in concrete than in a soft "foam" material...
