...How deep is the device box?
Ceiling boxes come in various depths, down to 35-40 mm.
So they fit 28 mm spaced paneling + 13 mm gypsum/ceiling panel.

But, as has been written several times here, look at what the spot manufacturer's installation instructions say.

For Malmbergs MD-350, it only specifies junction box or 20cm to combustible material. There's nothing about the depth of the box.

Rigid 20cm to flammable, is it really upward/backward?
Not many people can have that much space above a lamp.

I turned on my spotlights this weekend and I'm satisfied with their light, I can try to get a picture tonight if I remember.

2 pictures of our spotlights (The mobile pictures didn't turn out great, but I hope they give an indication):

Ceiling spotlights illuminating a modern kitchen with wooden flooring, light cabinets, and a breakfast bar with a stool. Interior room with spotlights shining on the ceiling, featuring a window, a chair, and some construction materials on a wooden floor.

It looks great. It gives a slightly yellower light, more towards the halogen side. I like that.

I wrote to the electronics store to get a quote on these spotlights. They said they did not recommend Malmbergs, suggesting there were better spotlights. I asked which ones and got 3 different Xerolight suggestions. I asked why they were better and received the following response:

"The quality of the product in terms of the feel of how it's made. Then, there's the technical aspect that the light color is better and more like a halogen on Xerolight, plus you get more light from them."

What do you think of the electronics store's assessment of Xerolight compared to Malmbergs?

I have a few xeroligt (smaller than the ones you are considering, mine are under kitchen cabinets) and I am satisfied with them. However, I have read in another thread that Xerolight is run by relatives of those who run elbutik.se, so although their response may be correct, there is a risk of some bias.

Xerolight is probably good, but one gets a bit suspicious about elbutik.se's response. You just need to Google a bit to see the connection between the companies.

Here is the thread ullberg is talking about.

I suspected their response was biased. Normally, when you request a quote for a product, stores don't start by saying...there are much better spots... Especially not when the ones you're ordering are from a recognized good brand. Malmbergs is well-known and doesn't make any junk as far as I know. Suspected something was fishy from the start :-)

Read what they wrote about them earlier. It seems like they advise against Malmbergs every time and suggest Xerolight instead. Feels like they should stop selling Malmbergs then and just be a retailer of Xerolight. That would feel more honest.
