Hi. I hope someone can answer my question.
We are building a new bathroom in the house from -47. We have bought a corner bathtub with space for two people (I think it was 320 liters of water without anyone bathing in it).
I have opened up the floor a bit to measure the floor joists, and they are 60cc apart and about 7cm * 17.5cm.
Under the floor is a basement, and the bathtub will be placed right along with a load-bearing brick wall.
Over the plank floor, I plan to have 22mm chipboard and then 13mm self-leveling compound at the lowest point.
So, what do you think, will I need to reinforce the joists?
I hope I have explained reasonably well; otherwise, just ask.
Regards, Johan

When tiles are to be placed on the floor, the c/c distance between the beams should be 30 cm. Adding the weight from a full bathtub, it would be advisable to reinforce so you don't get cracks in the tiles from any potential deflection in the floor structure.
I have c/c 600 with a span of about 2 meters, floor joists 220mm on them is first 22 chipboard glued and screwed and on top of that is 22 chipboard strips/channels for underfloor heating glued and screwed as well as underfloor heating plates and pipes, on top of that 13 floor gypsum screwed and on that tiles, I'm considering whether to add "softener" to the grout to achieve a more elastic joint?
Max 600 mm c/c for the floor joists, 22 mm chipboard, and then fiber-reinforced floor leveling compound, is what applies, right?fef said:
Otherwise, it's not possible to answer the question if you don't know the span of the floor joists. How big is the bathroom?

Hello. Thank you for trying to help me.
We will have a wet room mat on the floor.
The bathroom is about 2.6*3.5m and the span is 3.5m, right?
The bathtub will not be in the middle of the span but on one edge. Two of the feet on the bathtub will be 2cm outside the wall in the basement.
Messy answer maybe, but thanks again for the answers.
Best regards, Johan
