Hello,

We have a slope down to our lawn. Now we are going to make the lawn larger and install a block stone wall (granite) that is 80cm high. I will dig out properly and make a concrete footing. It will be below ground level so that the stone is 20cm below the ground level against the lawn.

My question is if I can just place the stones on the footing or if they need to be secured in some way? They weigh 600kg each, so you would think they should stand, but I have too little experience with this sort of thing, so I feel uncertain.

Grateful for help!

Old stonemasons used steel dowels, which they invisibly chipped in between courses, but that might be a somewhat labor-intensive method. However, some form of embedded iron might be appropriate. Depending on the size of the grass surface and what is beneath it, the earth pressure can become quite large.
