do I dare fix the interior wall to the sparse panel?

Can I secure the inner wall by driving screws straight up into the sparse paneling, or will the vibrations just cause issues with the ceiling then?

or should I try to brace and screw with a block in between..

It usually works great to attach interior walls to the framework.

That's how you attach interior walls.

I have the partition wall in the garage attached to the framework.
Admittedly, it has only been there for just over a year, but no problems so far.

You can see in my picture, this is exactly how you can force a drywall between spars and inner wall... Would you have extended the drywall all the way or stopped at the wall, then placed a new board on the other side...

kind of silly to start fixing if the intention is to have boards all the way...
