I'm going to build a deck at the summer cottage and have a construction question. I plan to place the load-bearing beam for the deck on footings as close to the house as possible. Now, the house itself is also on footings, and I'm wondering how close to these I can place the deck footings?

It probably depends mainly on the type of land you have. Also, where in the country the house is located can have an impact.

The house is located outside Nyköping in Sörmland. Planning to place the deck on 700 mm pillars. The pillars for the house stand on soil that is filled on top of rather clayey ground. Without having dug and looked, I would say that the pillars closest to the deck pillars mostly stand in soil/gravel and possibly that those at the bottom stand in clay soil.

You need to be careful not to undermine the house's foundations. As you describe the conditions, that risk is probably quite small. I think 700 mm foundations are overkill for a deck. That's a lot of work. I would settle for 500 mm foundations. The deck's foundations don't need to be closer than half a meter to the façade.

The distance "overhang" against the facade depends a bit on what dimension of joists you have in mind.

Thanks for the advice! I'll move the footings out a bit from the house wall.

Planning to use 145x45 beams and cc60. Will check it out and might go up to 170 beams.

45x145 floor joists are acceptable if the span is no more than 2.1 meters.

Have 145 45 with an overhang of nearly 60
