Hello,

we are planning to build a tight fence that is about 10 m long and 180 cm high. The fence is intended to be clad vertically with 20 x 120 boards that are screwed/nailed onto a recessed nail rail (20 x 120) at the top and bottom. The posts are intended to be attached with plitjärn (350 mm) that are cast in cardboard tubes together with reinforcement bars.

My question is: Do you think it will be too weak with 70 posts if the post spacing is about 150 cm? It would be very nice to avoid these bulky and cumbersome 95 posts.

Grateful for an answer.

Håkan

I think it holds but feels weak for those dimensions. With a recessed 34 mm rule, there will only be 36 mm of wood left over 120 mm carrying the plank. Thinking about the forces from the wind.

Sorry, I accidentally wrote the wrong thickness for the nail batten and cladding. It should be 20 x 120. But as you mentioned, maybe still too flimsy.

20 mm is way too flimsy as a nail rule for planks.
