We had the same problem, but our hanbjälkar were not homogeneous; they consisted of several parts. One part between the rafters and then nailed-on boards on the outside. They were not pretty, to say the least. We made casings from the old loose temporary floor which I think were leftover pieces from the construction. A bit of planing, a bit of sanding, a bit of linseed oil wax and a trim, and it should be done, right?

The first three steps were easy. Solved the problem by putting quarter-round molding on the vertical sides, but underneath I placed a flat piece, by the way, Biltema's "stir in things/ good to have/ light the fire-sticks" which we got as a gift once. Solved it for us. See the picture. I have full understanding of the difficult angles. Wooden beam casing built from old floor pieces, finished with linseed wax and molding. Shows solution to uneven beam appearance with wood trim.
