We are retiling our kitchen.

We want a simple white(-ish) tile.

I have two questions.

1. Matte or glossy tile? Personally, I think glossy belongs in a bathroom, my partner disagrees.

2. What is the difference between tiles for 150kr/m2 and 400kr/m2? I'm happy to pay for quality, etc., but I need to understand why I'm paying almost 300% more for the more expensive one? I haven't been able to find any such information.

1: Matte or glossy is a matter of taste, so you and your partner will have to try to agree on something.
2: The quality of a more expensive tile is usually better.

Yes, well, that's what you hope. But in what way? Does it last three times as long? Is it easier to install?

Matte tiles become scratched.

Better/thicker glaze, better in sizes, better straightness

It probably depends, I have had matte tiles in the bathroom for 20 years without any scratches forming. However, I have noticed that it's incredibly difficult to remove marks from "tool scrapes".

Ok, I understand.

Which brands are considered to be of good quality?

My tips:
  • Glossy tiles, it's easier to keep clean from grease splatters and such.
  • Large tiles, so there are fewer seams/joints to fill nicely.
  • Brand? Tiles are probably just imports from no-name manufacturers down south?

In 2004, I helped build bathrooms. The cheapest white tiles we could find. They weren't difficult to cut. I cut everything without any issues. The bathroom is still nice.

But, maybe we were really lucky because I've heard others talk about cheap tiles that crack when you cut them or the glaze cracks. We didn't know that back then... I'm not sure if I dare to do the same today...

On glossy tiles everything shows, better with matte tiles. But it's a matter of taste.
The quality is generally better on a more expensive tile, as several in the thread have written.

How many square meters should be tiled in the kitchen?

Oh yes, I've rubbed with those. Unfortunately, it doesn't work very well on my matte tiles. But thanks for the tip anyway! (y)

Almost 6 sqm

Then it's not astronomical amounts we're talking about.
