Difference between mortar B C etc.?

What does the letter really mean together with bruk?

Today I've seen Murbruk B, Murbruk C, Putsbruk C.. can someone explain?

I have pretty poor knowledge, but I have the impression that A-bruk is the strongest, then B-bruk and so on.
And that you always put a weaker on a stronger, not the other way around, for example, building with A, plastering with B, and applying a final layer if needed (something like that, I'm sure there are many secrets in this).
And BTW, I could be completely wrong as well.
