Hi!

I am in the process of planning a renovation of my apartment and am considering tearing down a wall to my kitchen.

Both the board of my housing association and contractors I've spoken with have asked me to get drawings from the city planning office to see if the wall is load-bearing...

However, I now realize that as a layman, I unfortunately cannot interpret much from the drawing, so I'm hoping someone here has a better grasp of this?

I also understand that I should hire a structural engineer before the wall is torn down, but it seems unnecessary if someone could already say whether the wall is load-bearing or not.

Attached is an image with a (less nicely) drawn arrow pointing to the wall in question.

Thanks in advance!

That wall should not be load-bearing.

That's what the contractor I talked to also said, but at the same time, the wall seems to be concrete, and it's also the only wall in my apartment that completely blocks my WiFi signal (despite the modem being right on the other side of the wall, I have ZERO coverage in my kitchen).

Would you still say that it should not be load-bearing?

It could be some kind of prefabricated concrete slab they placed, strange that it just blocks the wifi. How thick is it?

There are thick walls between the apartments so they should be load-bearing, the inner wall is quite thin so it shouldn't be load-bearing. But it's hard to say for sure.

About 10cm, and I can't say it's 100% concrete, but it does block WiFi. If you stand half a meter from the router on the other side of the wall in the kitchen, it's completely useless.

Also, I should probably mention that I'm only planning to tear down half of the wall. Maybe it would be possible even if it is load-bearing?

It depends on whether you plan to split it into two halves vertically or horizontally...:crysmile::crysmile::crysmile:

Seriously though, I don't think it looks like it's load-bearing, there are thicker walls on the drawing that should be if anything. Also wondering what the material is, that should say something about it, one would think.
