I'm now sitting in my completely 100% self-built house writing this.
Aside from some general handyman skills, a bit of construction sense, I had only this forum, träguiden, and a few other sources on the internet to thank for completing this project. I had almost zero building experience before.
But I won't lie, many hours have been spent at the computer. Knowledge doesn't exactly come free, not even with the internet.
ps. cutting out about twenty studs for a beam under the wall plate isn't particularly difficult; I've done it on both the garage and the house now, it takes about an hour.
You can definitely afford that.
Just buy some reasonably decent tools, and it becomes almost a pleasure.
