I'm building a deck at home and planning to have a bunch of spotlights shining out over the floor. However, I'm not quite sure how to achieve this in the most aesthetically pleasing way.

My idea is to create a small box by joining two decking boards 22x95 in an upside-down L shape against the wall. Then drill holes in this and place the spotlights in it. I'm attaching pictures of how it looks now and my idea.

Is there a more efficient or attractive way to solve this?

There are recessed lights that shine slightly to the side. So not just upwards. Can't find a link now.

Unfortunately, I can't install any recessed lights right now. I should have thought of this earlier since the edge closest to the wall isn't even.

So I'll have to find a way to cover up the ugly edge that's there.
