Hello
Does anyone have any tips on building a deck/patio at the same level as the grass, i.e., ground level? If you want to use posts and beams, plus have joists for the planks, you have to dig deep. Is there another way to solve this? The deck/patio with walls, etc., will be about 20 square meters.
Thank you in advance.

Won't there be any settlement, or how do you deal with frost heave, etc. Would it work even if you put up walls, etc. It adds a bit of weight.

I have a deck that lies on 50x25x5 concrete slabs in a gravel bed, within a wall about 40 cm above the rest of the garden.futureminder said:
It's been like this for several years now, without frost heave.
If you're going to put up walls, dig down a couple of posts for the poles, but you don't need to anchor the floor...

Have you insulated the floor in any way?
Not the one that's outside, but another one that's under a roof and glazed.futureminder said:
"Insulated" with construction styrofoam between the floor beams, directly under the wall/glass sections to reduce the draft under the floor.
It has actually worked quite well.
