Hello,

Does anyone have experience with what applies technically when installing thresholds and moldings?

We moved into a new construction in April 2024 and are not at all satisfied with the final result in certain areas.

Figure 1, WC, terrible joint, a few centimeters thick

Wooden threshold between parquet and tiled flooring, showing minor damage from nails and installation imperfections.

Figure 2, towards the threshold from hallway to bedroom, shot with a nail gun, damaged threshold, could remove the whole threshold. Can you really shoot nails into parquet that moves over time? Feels like it will always come loose?

Damaged threshold with removed quarter round, torn paper covering, and visible wooden floorboards, possibly showing poor installation and loose fitting.

Figure 3, WC/D, quarter round, with joint on one side, looks really dull...

Wooden threshold transitioning between tiled and hardwood floors, showing potential installation issues such as nail usage. Shadow visible across the area.

Extra figures from a project where it looks significantly nicer.

A damaged threshold between a tiled bathroom and a wooden floored room, showing the threshold being held with nails. A person stands on the wood floor in slippers. Damaged wooden threshold between a hallway and room, with visible nail holes, highlighting poor installation; part of home construction critique. Damaged threshold between wooden floor and tiled area, showing signs of poor installation with visible nail marks. A person in white socks is partially visible.

According to the builder, new requirements state how the waterproofing must be finished, hence they have not extended the tiles further out, but finished behind the tile boards according to new regulations. After a discussion with the developer, I was to come back with a solution I desire for WC and WC/D. When it comes to the bedroom thresholds, they will use the same method and shoot the thresholds with nails again. They don't want to use screws as a solution because they are afraid of damaging pipes that run under the doors to the radiators. Isn't it true that the thresholds will always come loose since they are shot into parquet that moves over time? Meanwhile, we were told that if we want to install a kitchen island and secure it to the parquet/concrete, the warranty no longer applies.

Examples of damaged moldings that have chipped...

White door frame with two small nail holes near the edge. The background shows a closed door partially visible. Close-up of a door frame with visible nail holes and minor damage on the trim. The frame shows a corner joint with a noticeable gap. Close-up of a corner of a door frame showing imperfections, small holes, and visible gaps, illustrating issues with trim installation.

Examples of nicer installed moldings, where the holes look considerably better.

The new rules at the bathroom threshold mean that you should widen the threshold so that it is flush with the wall.

If I understand it correctly, it hasn't been done like that in the WC, where they have placed an excessive amount of grout?

Should it look like in the pictures? Is it executed correctly? There must be a more aesthetically pleasing solution?

They have done the same in both bathrooms. The solution is a wider threshold. See the images in the link.

Thresholds between "regular" rooms are not fixed at all. They are loose.
Buy a wax prnna for 20kr and poke it into the nail holes in the moldings. Takes 2 seconds per hole.

There are exceptional assembly adhesives nowadays that are perfect for the purpose. Elastic assembly adhesive of any kind allows the construction to move slightly. I can recommend Bostik maxibond or my own personal favorite Tec7.
