Are there not asbestos-free replacement tiles?
Then you can saw them and throw away your old ones whole.

Not at all, I would say. It is a homogenous material consisting of cement with asbestos fibers in it.

Good to have precautions. I had relatives who sawed asbestos boards in the 50s. They are dead now.

That probably applies to most of those who were of working age 70 years ago.

Yes, probably! It probably doesn't matter if they lived on an extremely well-balanced diet, exercised regularly, and watched out for cars when crossing the street. That was fun!

Every year, 300 people in Sweden die from asbestos.

Hardly from cutting 10-20 fiber cement panels once in a lifetime, especially while wearing a mask.

Cutting an asbestos cement sheet with a face mask is bound to take a hell of a long time! :D

The safest way should be to use a handsaw and cut underwater, no need for a face mask or a proper mask then. The only post-treatment required is drying.

No, sorry "only" 100 people per year, of those who appear in the National Board of Health and Welfare's cancer registry. Then one can imagine a number who do not appear in the statistics but have had reduced quality of life and illness due to asbestos handling.

I seem to recall that one would score and snap fiber cement boards. Similar to how you do with tiles. Perhaps creates somewhat less dust than sawing.
