Hi, I need to trim about 5mm off a newly painted board (above the fridge) and I'm wondering how to do this best (best way without chipping the newly painted board).

1 - Electric planer
2 - Jigsaw
3 - Multitool

I understand that I should use tape (though I don't know which type of tape to use to prevent chipping)

I can imagine that the jigsaw and multitool might be difficult to cut with, since so little needs to be removed, while the electric planer might be difficult as I can't go along the board all the way. I appreciate any tips.

Plunge saw/circular saw/table saw. Neither jigsaw nor multi-tool provides particularly straight cuts.

A sharp back saw and a board for support to saw against..

As I see it, there is no opportunity to use these saws as it is part of the cabinet frame that needs to be cut away at the top of the refrigerator. So the working position doesn't feel right, and the tools are also missing. In the worst case, if the cut is not straight, I will have to put some type of molding to cover it.

That's the kind used for window sills, right? I didn't think of that.

The backsaw only works for the first decimeter. Then the back of the saw hits the board...
I assume the board is supposed to be cut lengthwise? It is possible if you hold the saw very flat, but then you can't reach all the way to the wall or whatever it is that the electric plane would hit.

It is to be cut along the grain, but it should work as I have one from when I installed window sills and could then go from edge to edge.
