Quick short question.

How do you cut asbestos cement boards in a sensible, safe way?

Kind regards, Kent

There are special cutting discs for the angle grinder. However, they create a lot of dust. In addition, they are hazardous to health. Respiratory protection is a must. Contains asbestos.

Spray water on it while you cut so it doesn't create dust.

It depends on the precision you're looking for. If it's the corners of the P6 / P8 taketernit, then it's easiest with pliers.

It is fasadeternit that needs to be cut.
One thing I'm wondering is if it would work with a tile cutter?

How was it done in the past?

In the past, people would stand with an angle grinder in one hand without explosion protection and a cigarette in the corner of their mouth. I clearly remember when asbestos cement was cut to be put on our garage in the 70s. It looked like fog over the entire area, and right in the middle of it stood the person cutting without any type of protection.

The hacksaw is great for this if you're not going to cut a large amount.

There will unfortunately be quite a few discs that need to be cut. An angle grinder doesn't seem like an option if it produces a lot of dust.

I would choose not to cut in eternit, isn't your health worth a little more?

Has to be done somehow. Have at least acquired special disposable coveralls and a silicon protective mask with particle filter.

I used a jigsaw while wetting the tiles with water before I started cutting.
Run at a fairly low speed so there is no dust as long as it is wet.
Collect the "sawdust" that remains.
Protective equipment is a given.

Were steel or wooden blades used when you sawed with the jigsaw?

I don't really remember but I think I tried different blades.

I recall going through some blades.

I think it was a blade for something like particleboard and similar that worked best.

Have tried a little today. Tried a wood blade and a metal blade. Both ended up on a plate.
