Hello, I have an old internal attic hatch with slightly unusual dimensions that doesn't have any insulation to speak of. The hatch is just a hatch, i.e., no integrated ladder or anything like that, and I don't need a ladder now either.
In connection with an additional insulation, I want to replace the hatch but haven't found anyone selling either the right dimensions or a custom-sized insulated hatch. I simply can't install a larger hatch as the existing one goes right through a roof truss that has been relieved, the hatch is attached to the reliefs.
Does anyone have tips on where you can custom order a decent insulated attic hatch?

I had the same issue and offset both in length and width. You can offset by placing a beam on top of the rafters and hang the one that is offset with steel beams before you cut it out. That's what I did and I don't regret the work, nice to have good space up there.
Take a few pieces of insulation of the Styrofoam type and cut them so they fit exactly into the hole, with a top piece that is larger than the hole. Attach them together, then carefully fit this into place when you come down from the attic, so that it hangs in the hole before you close the hatch.
You present it as if it's somewhat ironic to make a larger hatch,Staffan2000 said:
where's the mistake in saying such a thing, and a suggestion that it could be done
But, well, as usual, when a proposal comes up and it doesn't suit the gentlemen, it's dismissed and rejected as rubbish, regardless of who proposed it
It's up to TS to decide how it should be, and neither you, anyone else, nor I should interfere

We had something similar in our first house.Anna_H said:
A hatch made of the same "rustic panel" that the ceiling was covered with.
Screwed together on a frame, which protruded a few cm all around.
This frame rested on the ceiling panel all around,
and with regular P-sealing strips for a bit of airtightness.
And then 2 x 10 cm styrofoam sheets on top with almost "press fit".
The hatch was without hinges, so you would push it up when you wanted to inspect the attic.
Which was easy, because the hatch was "featherlight"

Since TS was not interested in changing the hatch size, I couldn't understand your response, hence the question mark!
That was all!
Don't you also think that Anna H has a brilliant solution. So good, that the attic hatch problem can be considered solved?

Not entirely bad if you don't want to saw into the ceilingStaffan2000 said:

I'm currently working on putting one together myself. Our attic hatch consists of a chipboard with some sauna panel on it, and it is located right outside the shower :-DStaffan2000 said:
