Hello everyone, I'm not sure if I posted this in the right place but I hope I did.
But now to the point. I'm really tired of hitting my head on this beam every time I go up to the attic and I'm wondering if this beam is necessary and if it can be replaced if so.. Wooden loft area with exposed beams and a low ceiling, causing an obstruction to headroom, storage items visible below. Wooden beam across a loft entryway causing head clearance issues, with visible shelving and wiring along the wall. Attic space with exposed beams and a ladder leading to a loft. A beam is highlighted under discussion for removal or support adjustment. Attic space with wooden beams and scattered boards; visible support beam causing head clearance issue.
Thanks in advance!(y)

It is needed. How you relieve it, I do not know.

With some input from those who know better, maybe msn can move it down a bit or something..;)

And as usual, I apologize for my embarrassingly bad photos.. I'm useless at photography

It is a hanbjälke, whose main task is to prevent the rafters from pushing out the outer walls. It can usually be moved vertically, but this can have consequences for the roof structure. More cannot be said without better documentation.

Okay, there's hope then at least!(y)
What else do you want to know? So I know what to check or take a picture of, I am completely novice at constructions..

The roof is at least the boards that are visible from the inside, and the roofing is regular sheet metal, type tp20 or whatever it's called.

The best is a scale sectional drawing with details about the dimensions of the trusses' parts.

Oh dear! I will try to get one of those.. Somehow..(y)

Say you have a real snow load on the roof, then it's that which prevents the snow from pushing apart the house walls!

Move the stairway (or rotate it 90 degrees.)
