A year ago, a stove shop installed a wood stove in my house. Everything works well, but after a couple of months, I could notice small cracks in the joints between the bricks, and over time they have become longer and more apparent. I am afraid that the bricks might collapse any moment.... The bottom edge of the brick row is reinforced with a steel track. What can I do besides calling a mason to rebuild the stove?

  • Close-up of a brick fireplace with visible cracks in the mortar joints, against a metal bottom edge with ventilation slots.
  • Close-up of a brick fireplace showing visible cracks in the mortar joints between the bricks, with a black stove and metal reinforcement at the lower edge.
Was there any metal support or similar in the corner that was removed when the insert was installed?

No, there wasn't.
