Hi,

I removed all layers of wallpaper in a room on the ground floor of the house and discovered this crack in the wall joint at the gable end. I can easily insert the entire blade of a putty knife. Should I be worried? How can this be sealed? Does it need to be rectified in another way for the house's structural integrity? The right wall is the short side of the house, and from that part, we often hear creaking sounds, especially during the summer. Could there be a connection?

Is this a hidden defect?

The house is from 1973 and the wall is presumably made of blåbetong (?). We moved into the house this summer.

Many questions, but I'm very grateful for any advice I can get.

  • Visible crack in wall corner after removing wallpaper, possibly indicating structural issues in a 1973 house. Crack is wide enough for a putty knife.
  • Crack in a wall joint in a 1973 house, possibly made of aerated concrete, revealing a gap where a spackle blade can fit. Signs of structural concern.
