Hello!

We had to reinforce an extension in our 1940s house. A glulam beam has been installed, and we need to seal and make it look nice since it's in the living room. How do we do this in the best, simplest, and cheapest way? Materials, approach? The living room will be painted afterward.

All tips and advice are warmly welcomed.

  • A living room with a newly installed wooden beam under renovation, surrounded by windows and covered furniture, with plastic sheeting hanging from the beam.
  • Glued laminated timber beam installed in a 1940s house living room for extension support, in need of sealing and finishing before painting.
It's probably cheapest with plasterboard and filler...

Thanks for the input! We are actually considering that. But since we are going to have profiled skirting boards, it would be nice with some kind of decorative molding on the columns. I think maybe you could nail molding directly onto the drywall.
