hello!

I'm sitting here contemplating 2 expansions that I will do myself. The house is from 1920 and has a mansard roof. I only plan to expand the ground floor in 2 different places, partly to avoid having to rebuild the roof structure and partly to preserve the original appearance of the house.

So instead, I want to lay a "flat" roof and build a "terrace" on top of both expansions. What has kept me awake for a few nights now is how the heck I am supposed to attach the decking and terrace structure to the roof surface.

Which material would be easiest to use as roofing, I have received tips about felt and then going up through the felt with something like 45x70 pressure-treated wood in several places...

It seems like a good tip... but I'm still a bit skeptical that the felt will hold 100% tight against the wood!

Opinions and tips are gratefully received!!

If you're only building a deck, it should be enough to let it rest on the tar paper roof at a few points (where there is good load-bearing capacity, for example ;) ). At these points, you can place, for example, a stainless steel plate and then build with pressure-treated wood; this way, you have minimal contact with the tar paper roof, and moisture cannot "creep in" anywhere.

Then anchor the deck to the wall where you exit, so the entire structure doesn't risk sliding off the roof :D

hmm...do you really think it's a good idea, although the contact surface becomes quite large, my theory was that eventually they will "roughen" a hole in the paper leading to leaks straight down to the roof decking...but I'm not at all good with paper roofs so I'm not really sure what they can be loaded with.
thanks for the answer anyway..

Place an extra piece of cardboard/plastic under the support then.

Alternatively, set the whole thing on double metal plates; if they are smooth, they will be the ones to slide first and foremost.

I'm not a builder, but I have seen several constructions where they simply just hoisted up stairs on cardboard without any problems; the cardboard actually withstands more than you might think.
