House with a basement from 1949. How is the structure made if the description says '12 cm concrete structure with 2" x 4" floor joists'?

Are the floor joists embedded in the concrete, or do they lie on top?

A technical question as well, how was it done when the house was built, was the concrete poured on site? Patterns in the basement ceiling look like they could come from a mold.

Thanks!

I interpret it as that on top of the concrete slab, a subfloor with 2x4 inch studs is installed. This was also a common construction method at the time. The slab is certainly site-cast on a form that was covered with raw board. Sometimes, the builder had leftover raw board that could be reused. The concrete was mixed on site with the help of a larger mixer and poured into the mold with wheelbarrows. Pre-mixed factory concrete was not available, and cranes were not used in small house constructions.

Sounds reasonable, thank you!
