I was thinking of trying to make a "sprättskydd" or whatever it is called that needs to be on the floor below the fireplace in the house. I want to make it as thin as possible and preferably dye it black. I have access to equipment for grinding, but: The size of the slab will be 850x300x?? What type of concrete is best suited for this? What should I use to dye the concrete? How thin can I make it? Is something like chicken wire sufficient for reinforcement?
I've previously made a smaller table with a concrete slab which I cast with fine concrete, and the stones (gravel) in it didn't look so nice when I sanded it. Many reddish stones...

Hi,
Wouldn't you rather use a protective plate? The major stove stores and hardware stores sell these.
A friend of mine skipped all that and visited a local metalworker, for 300 he got a larger plate than the stores and cheaper.
Then you avoid casting and all that.

Easier to lay tiles!
Just level with self-leveling compound so the tiles are at the same height as the surrounding floor.
