Hello. I'm going to rent a house for a while and then buy it, and I'm passionate about renovation. I've renovated 2 apartments before, though I've not built walls and such.
The question is now, what should I have between the stud and the drywall? I want to be able to screw up shelves and such without using plugs. MDF? What thickness is good? Should I use plastic between the insulation and the drywall? It's an unheated garage, but maybe an element could be installed?

It can be tricky to insulate a space that is meant to be unheated. The risk is that, especially in spring, the garage is cold inside and warm humid air in the morning condenses somewhere in the wall outside the plastic where the dew point is reached.
