A galvanized metal gate at night, casting shadows on gravel, with a tree leaf in the foreground. I have an idea to clad our galvanized gate in wood. However, I'm not exactly sure how and wonder if there are any ideas? My wife wants me to scrap it and order a completely new one in wood, but I would like to keep the galvanized frame as I believe it is stable. The span is large, and I think a new wooden gate would be sensitive to settlements, and it would be cheaper to clad the existing one. See picture.

Yes, why not. One option is to find slats that exactly cover two bars. One on each side is screwed together so that they are held in place by the clamping force. Then the next slat on the next two bars so the openings become like on the steel gate. Then a longitudinal board on edge at the top and bottom. Finally, a wide cap rail with a nice profile on top.
