I am going to mount a 65” TV (20 kg) on a drywall (single layer). I expect to hit at least one stud, but if it's not possible to screw into more, I'm considering 2 molly M5 on each side. Which wood screw would you recommend in a scenario where I can only screw into 1 stud?

What do the mounting points look like on the wall mount?

Will the TV hang right next to the wall all the time or will it be rotated out so that it hangs a bit away from the wall?

What are the dimensions of the wooden studs?

Buy a piece of plywood and attach it to the wall with drywall anchors. Then attach the TV wall mount to the board.

The TV will thus hang quite close to the wall and parallel to the wall.
Most of the force will then go downward.

OK. Then a couple of French wood screws in combination with molly on the edges should be enough?

French wood screw sounds like overkill.
Molly sounds good.

What would you have chosen instead?

Wood screws with flat head, 5x60mm where two are in the stud together with 2 Molly should be more than enough.

A hand holding a 58x4 mm golden screw used for mounting TV brackets, depicted with a background of a partial green toolbox.

I have hung up two TVs at home with roughly the same wall mount (70 and 58 inches). Someone else can surely say what this screw is called, but it's 58x4 mm. It's worked great to put two of these (one up, one down) in the middle of the stud and then use regular drywall screws with plugs on the ends of the TV mount.

Bought it in bulk at Bauhaus.

It should not be a countersunk head but the head should be flat on the underside,
for example, the following screw,

There is an advantage to a countersunk head when attaching a TV mount, which is that the screw centers itself in the hole and grips both at the top and bottom.

Thank you for all the great answers, now I have a clear understanding of how the wall mount should be securely attached :)
