Hello!

I'm in the process of building a fence on top of a stone wall. The stone wall is built with traditional masonry stone (solid natural stone), each stone is about 170 mm high.

The fence is intended to be up to 1.5 m high. Pressure-treated timber. Posts 95x95 and horizontal slats 28x45 with spacing. The fence will be approximately 4+1 m at an angle, with the posts set at about cc 1 m (due to stepping in the wall). The location is exposed to wind from the north, so I want it to be securely anchored.

So now to the question:
I see two options in front of me.
One is to use post shoes (the type with welded rebar at the bottom) that I drill down and anchor in the wall with anchor compound or similar.
The other is to use post shoes with 4 smaller holes that I drill and anchor with plugs and lag screws.

I'm leaning towards the first option, but I'm unsure if my hammer drill can handle driving a 22x250 mm drill bit into the stone. It's a green Bosch PBH 2200 RE (570W / 1.8J). It would be a shame to buy all the materials and then have the machine not handle it :).

Any experiences?

95x95 seems a bit too rough, do you have a picture of the wall?

Yes, here comes a picture of the wall. Measured the stones and they are LxBxH=390x190x170.
Are you thinking of posts 70x70 instead?
What do you think about the drilling? :)

Thanks!

IF you have an extra stone or try drilling in the bottom of a loose stone for a post base.
