Hello!
I built a kåta last summer and am now in the process of insulating the walls inside. I'm planning to cover the walls with some kind of board material. I think drywall might be the easiest to work with since it can be cut with a knife. However, I have never worked with gypsum boards and there are several types to choose from. The kåta will remain unheated for large parts of the year, so moisture might be something to consider here? Would it work with renovation gypsum at 7 mm or is that too flimsy? I'm also not planning to hang anything heavy on the walls. Grateful for your opinions! //Regards

No plastic if it will be unheated! Recommend träpanel inside, fits best and you avoid spackling, sanding, spackling, sanding, spackling, sanding...

Hi,

Do you mean that the vapor barrier is not good here?

Use a vapor barrier, not a plastic seal, to avoid moisture problems. The wall should breathe.

Agree with ångbroms, not ångspärr. If you want plasterboard on the inside, I would probably suggest moisture-resistant plasterboard/exterior plasterboard or similar that has fiberglass instead of cardboard to hold the board together.

If the kåta remains unheated for large parts of the year, there is a high risk of condensation and mold if you use plastic/gypsum. As others write, no vapor barrier but vapor brake, and use e.g. fiber cement boards inside if you don't want to install paneling (which in my opinion would fit better).

Run paneling so you have a reason to buy a smaller nail gun (the largest model of a finish nailer) as well. It should be cozy, drywall is just ugly for a kåta. Fiber cement boards work technically but are not so pretty.

Are you going to insulate as well?

Thanks for the tips. :) I'm ditching plaster and going for some wood material instead.

- Yes, I'm insulating the lower half up to 180 cm above the floor. Then I can handle an outside temperature of -10 C with 2000 watts. It will only be used sporadically during the winter.

How nice!
I don't know where in the country it is built, but perhaps installing a solar air heater could be a good help to maintain a good climate year-round in the kåta? It only costs for purchase and not for operation, plus it's not a large space.

Thank you!

Didn't even know such a product existed. Could be just right here!
