The floor on the upper level is very "soft," it thuds when walked on and creaks in other rooms, and it is very noisy from the living room below. Currently, there is laminate on top of an old plastic mat and a subfloor of nailed particle board. Initially, I thought about adding more beams as I believed they were spaced at cc 60, but according to a description I found, they are spaced at cc 40, the dimension is not specified but the span is at most 4.2 meters.

The plan is to replace the subfloor (and lay new 15 mm parquet) and I wonder how much you really gain by using construction plywood compared to particle board? For example, 21x2400x1200 construction plywood is much more expensive than 22 mm particle board, but since the area is not huge, I could live with the cost if I knew the result would also be much better.

Bonus question: if it turns out to be weak beams when I open the floor, could you screw and glue new beams to the existing ones to achieve higher stability, or should the spacing be reduced to 20?
