I have an old chimney where I want to put up a heavy iron plate as decoration. It's heavy, the question is how to attach it in the best way. Maybe an IKEA-style picture frame to rest on, then it should be anchored at the top. Grateful for tips.// Peter
In a chimney breast, I would drill a hole and insert a plug designed for brick and then screw, either directly into the sign.
Isn't the picture ledge enough? maybe not with one like IKEA sells but make your own from real timber and it should be enough.

Thanks for a quick response. I need to drill holes in the iron sign if it's thick. I can check if I can reach an old thick board to place underneath. //peter
If the sign is large, perhaps you can hide angle irons behind it? In that case, you get more fastening points and distribute the load on the wall if you attach a sturdy plank in angles that are screwed into the wall. It becomes a shelf to place the sign on.
