Chimney insulation in a cold attic?

Does anyone know if you need to insulate (enclose) the chimney stack in the cold attic when installing a stove? Or any link?

In my world, the waste heat from the chimney is valuable as it helps against moisture and mold in the attic.

The chimney is made of brick and at least 50 years old.
I just want to know if there are any fire safety requirements where the chimney passes through the cold attic, nothing else.
Do I have to encase it in some form of fireproof material?
For now, we are ignoring waste heat, moisture, etc.

Ensure that nothing flammable is against the chimney, that it is accessible/inspectable.
Have the chimney sweep inspect the fireplace and chimney before using the new stove.

Covering a chimney so that it is no longer inspectable is indeed wrong, risk of failure on a fire safety inspection if TS covers the chimney in the attic.
