Those of you who have bought cheap tiles in Germany, where did you buy them? City? Dealer? ???
We are planning to drive from Malmö at the end of the month.
Also wondering how much we can transport in the car so it doesn't get too heavy.
grateful for help...

If you're planning to use a car to transport tiles, you won't be able to carry much, I can tell you that.
We bought a van to go to Germany and purchase tiles that can load a little over 1 ton. Once the construction is finished, we plan to sell it.
We visited Rostock and Lübeck when we did our "market research" in April last year.
We found lots of very stylish tiles at their normal price of 100 SEK/sqm and below.
Carrara marble in tiles 30x30, 1cm thick for 29.5 EUR/sqm. In 30x15, 0.70cm thick cost 23.9 EUR/sqm.
Very cool decorations made of mesh in sea stone, which cost 4500 SEK here, the cheapest we found there was 1600 SEK.

Sweli: where in Rostock were you? Hansa center?
I have no idea how much tiles weigh, but I thought at least we could bring enough for a large bathroom. What do you think?
We live in Malmö so it's quite cheap to go over for 3 hours or a full day, so we can go more times instead.
What was the price for regular tiles (not marble) in the size 30x30? We want large tiles in the bathroom with a "bård" somewhere in the middle of the wall.
Did you buy grout in Germany too or? I've heard that it's cheap at Biltema but thought it might be cheaper in T-land. ???

We haven't bought yet. We will need a lot and we live in Stockholm, so we bought a large van to be able to go and buy most of it at once.
We made the trip to check the prices because we had heard from several people that it was much cheaper. It's true.
We have been to
Bahr (Rostock)
Hagebau (Rostock)
Toom Baumarkt (Rostock)
Hulsmann (Lübeck) An exclusive store with an incredible assortment of tiles, but we thought the prices were on the high side. For example, some borders we found there in river stone, which were very nice, cost between 80-180 SEK. But it's definitely worth a visit. They have a marble room with entire walls covered in marble types that you've never seen before.
OBI (Lübeck)
At the other places, tiles in different formats range between 100-150 SEK/sqm at normal prices.
My recommendation is to go to a tile store in Malmö, pick up/buy a tile in the format you want, weigh it and calculate how many you will need for the bathroom. Just multiply to get a total weight. For me, it's difficult to say since different tiles weigh differently depending on thickness and material.
Regarding grout and other materials, make a list of what you plan to use with prices from Malmö (check tools!) and bring it with you. If you see it's cheaper there, just buy it. We didn't have time that weekend to check everything.
Another place for those of you who live on the southern side is Höör. There we found a store with very low prices. Tiles that cost 450 SEK/sqm here cost 170 SEK/sqm there. The website doesn't have much, but you can take a trip and look in the store: www.nilform.se They have directions on the website. We will buy some parts there.
If you speak German, here are some www sites
www.maxbahr.de
www.praktiker.de
www.hagebau.de
www.obi.de
Good luck to you lucky ones who live so close to the continent ;D
A little later...
I forgot to say there's a furniture store like IKEA but much better, several floors big.
30 km from Rostock, it's called Möbelkraft, it's really worth a visit!

Thanks for all the info Sweli you're a star
It's probably going to be Germany and maybe a visit to Höör as well! Could you write and tell me how it went when you've been to Germany then?
By the way - do you need to pay VAT or tax or something like that when you shop in Germany?
