We are planning to build a vacation home. Of course, we are interested in saving a bit of money and now I'm wondering if there is any place in Sweden with extra cheap building materials, something like a "Ullared" for building materials...?

I'm mainly thinking about things that can fit in a trailer. It doesn't matter if there are different places specializing in specific things. We can do a tour of Sweden if it would be worthwhile. I would be eternally grateful if anyone could give some tips!

Byggmax!

B&W for building materials. Then you can always look for recycling companies. There's no reason to pay a high price for storage doors etc. when you can buy these for 4-500 fully winter-insulated as used.

Recycling companies, municipal returns, etc. Perfect places to find bargains, just as you write mats_o. Be careful with all the cheap building material sellers, as it's often second-grade or defects that the sellers claim don't matter much. Those of us who build professionally do NOT like these materials. It just takes more time and results in more waste and a poorer final result. It's better to buy good quality for a slightly higher price and save on the Sweden tour in fuel and time costs. The proverb "Penny wise, pound foolish" is something to think about. Then, of course, it also depends a bit on what you have to choose from locally. But a cheap door that warps when it gets cold outside and warm inside, how fun is that? Better a used proper exterior door.

Oh yes.

What I was thinking about was screws and fittings as well as sheet material, which is cheap at Byggmax, and there is no difference as far as I could tell between Woody's and Byggmax's drywall, except that Byggmax was 20:- cheaper per sheet. VP pipes can also be advantageously purchased at Byggmax. They are exactly the same pipes that electrical companies use but at a better price. If you want gullfiber as insulation, then Byggmax's professional series is better than regular Rockwool, for example.

you can't trust that those assumed to deliver quality boards do so.. I bought chipboard and white melamine from Optimera that looked like third-grade.. so even they buy cheap boards from Eastern countries and sell them as first-grade to meet competition.
the melamine boards were flimsy on the edges and some completely lacked melamine about 5mm along the entire long side... the chipboard had no sharp edge anywhere and they were of a much softer quality than they should normally be..

>:( >:( so thumbs down for Optimera right now
