I had planned to install a ceiling-mounted shelf over the kitchen island, but then I started wondering what kind of ceiling it actually is, so I opened it up and checked. I thought it was plasterboard, but what is this? đł The shelf requires two attachment points and weighs a maximum of 10 kg.
Shouldn't there still be joists? I was thinking if I should attach the hooks to the joists in that case.
My cheap stud finder from Berra barely gives any indication.

That sounded incredibly incredible, is it recommended to screw into such material? I've searched around and found zero information about this cardboard ceiling. There are joists along the seams, but only one of the fastenings can use a joist due to the shelf's measurements.A A-Man_08 said:
You'll need to fasten into what's above.T Trevor8200 said:That sounds incredibly incredible, is it recommended to plug into something like that? It looks like some kind of masonite in the top layer? It should work with some form of molly plug, or another plug that expands wings. Just Molly must be intended for the right thickness, you need to check how thick the board is. Then you have to be very careful so the plug itself does not compress the board.
If you choose molly plug, make sure to use the intended installation tool that presses the plug more controlled than if you use the screw to compress the plug.

Thanks for the response, Molly sounds good but as you say, it might be easy to press the boards together or apart. What do you think about this one? Although it makes a 14mm hole, it should be stable.H hempularen said:It looks like there's some masonite in the top layer?
