Hello,
In previous room renovations, I've always used wooden moldings. But now I'm starting to wonder if it might not only be easier with other materials but also potentially look nicer. I saw that there are ceiling moldings from Gyproc made of plaster that you glue with plaster adhesive.

Has anyone here tried it?

Does anyone have experience with polystyrene moldings, do they turn out well, or do they feel plasticky even after being painted?

We're thinking of having fairly thick concave moldings without any other frills.

We have tested styrofoam and wood, and of course, wood looks the best. However, styrofoam is very easy to install and also to miter.... easy to cut with a knife if special angles are needed as well. If styrofoam moldings had been available in a sloped ceiling variant, we probably would have chosen that now, but we went with wood instead.

We chose wood when we remodeled. Had plastic or something like that at home to test, but it didn't match the color (yellow/white, not pure white) and the friend who helped with the construction thought the paint would peel off if you painted on it.

Yes, in addition to the wood, polystyrene, and gypsum variants, there are various pre-painted or pre-colored ones made of plastic, MDF, etc. I have not considered using those.

I have used hole core moldings made of plaster at a friend's place... Very convenient compared to wood... you can't tell it's plaster now that it's painted. I can warmly recommend it.

I am curious about the gipsvariant, have only seen it on Gyproc's website. Does anyone know where it can be purchased (in Stockholm)?

How does it compare price-wise? Cheaper or more expensive than wood?

It depends a bit on what type of wood we're talking about... but I remember he said it was expensive... I'll talk to him tomorrow and see if he remembers the price... but as I said... incredibly easy to work with...

We installed styrofoam moldings on the ceiling and then painted them with regular ceiling paint. Very good result. Completely indistinguishable from painted wooden moldings. But as mentioned, the prerequisite is to paint with ceiling paint; otherwise, they just look plastic.
