I have started making a hole in the wall for a cat flap, I had to cut the plastic too, I had been told it wasn't a problem but now that I've googled it I'm reading about how entire walls can mold if the vapor barrier is damaged. Is it enough to cover the insulation in the wall with plastic or have I really ruined something in my newly built house
I had planned to have a flap on both the outside and inside and put a wooden wall around the insulation but now I'm worried about the moisture barrier.

There are risks, but you shouldn't panic. Everything depends on the installation of the cat flap and how well-sealed the edges are against the interior wall and within the "tunnel" that the cat passes through, so you don't have air leakage into the wall. Seal around with sealant.

Personally, I wouldn't have worried.N Nickelina said:Have started making a hole in the wall for a cat flap, I also had to cut the plastic, I was told that it was not a problem but now that I've googled, I read about how entire walls can mold if the vapor barrier breaks.

But you can always wrap plastic all the way out to the building paper and tape carefully. That way, no moisture can get into the insulation. In theory, tape should be under pressure to be as airtight as possible, but you have to take it easy
So if I tape together the construction plastic with the other load and make sure it's tight, then maybe it's not so bad? The plastic is now between the insulation closest to the inner wall, but should I wrap all the insulation all the way out to the outer wall? I'm planning to have thick wooden boards as walls, and then I can silicone all the joints, can that work then?

You puncture the vapor barrier very often... even in modern houses and they seem to stand.N Nickelina said:So if I tape together the construction plastic with the other load and make sure it's sealed, maybe it's not that bad? Here you see two examples of how you can solve the problem.
Thanks for the answer, then I'll go buy plastic and tape tomorrow, now I can feel a little calmer, Google can really make you nervousnorrbottenssnickaren said:
