I'm thinking of breaking down our old front steps and casting new ones. Partly the steps themselves, but I also plan to create a raised edge that will act as a "handrail," even though the rail will probably only be about 60 cm high!
I have a decent idea of how to proceed with the concrete for the steps, I think, but the existing steps are built with brick sides and mesh as the steps. The question is, can I use the bricks from the old steps as fill in the new concrete? Or should that be avoided?
As I mentioned, I also plan to use new bricks to build up an edge/handrail. I was thinking of plastering this rail with KC-mortar, but can I also plaster the steps/sides of the steps with KC-mortar on the concrete? I assume that plastering the step surface itself won't hold up?
