I will cast 2 pillars for a future pergola of 6x4.5m where one side of the pergola will be attached to the facade.

Now I will cast the outer pillars and have EPS concrete left over. Is it okay to cast with it or are there any disadvantages?
I got the casting tubes down about 50-60cm and they are 120mm in diameter.
Should this be reinforced or can it be done without reinforcement?

Eps concrete has no strength, so no, you cannot cast with it.

Then it was as I suspected, I'll buy regular concrete

Do you have any idea if reinforcement is needed or if it's fine without?

Run reinforcement.

If you haven't already done the job, I can recommend this ground spike. I've seen it in action, incredible durability, frost-resistant, and done in a few minutes.

I am far from an expert in both forging and reinforcement. But I quickly put this together yesterday. Is this enough as reinforcement in the pier?
Any tips on when to pour? I've seen some people, for example, use a reciprocating saw on the casting tubes or reinforcement to vibrate away air bubbles, so I thought I'd try that.
Does it need to be wrapped in plastic after casting?
Anything else to think about?

  • A rebar framework on a concrete floor, constructed with metal rods, possibly for reinforcing a foundation or pillar.
It will be fine.
