I need to cast a foundation for a 12m flagpole. The hole is 40cm wide and 120cm deep. But how much concrete will be needed? According to an online calculator, it’s a cylinder of about 600 liters and one bag of expansion concrete at byggmax provides 13 liters. Do I really need 600 liters of concrete?!

Is it a round or square hole?

Edit: it says cylinder. Approximately 150 liters of concrete.

No, 150 liters.

You probably entered that the radius is 40cm, but it's actually 20cm. (y)

About 150l if it is a cylinder, if I'm not completely misremembering the school math.

Of course, thanks!

Why should you use expanderbetong? Isn't regular coarse concrete better?

How would regular coarse concrete be better, do you mean @Daniel 109? I think that coarse concrete is cheaper but hardly better.

Absolutely no expansive concrete is needed for a flagpole foundation.

Cheaper is one aspect that makes it better. The function is not worse. I can't see any advantage with expanding concrete for this.

Grovbetong is the right product here.

Wouldn't it work very well to throw a lot of stones into the foundation? It should mostly be a counterweight that holds it together. Maybe 50% larger stones?

'Procentning' during casting is a traditional method and if you have clean stones to put in or for that matter concrete scrap, it should work well in such a foundation.

A foundation for a flagpole might not exactly be rocket science, but generally speaking, you should increase the amount of cement if you're mixing other things into the bags of coarse concrete.

Larger stones do not noticeably increase the need for cement.

And even though the plot is quite small, do I need to water it for the next couple of days?
