Casting a new sole against existing, how to anchor with iron?
I am going to cast footings for the retaining wall on the chimney breast (which is currently suspended) and want to anchor it to the existing footing. I was advised to drill holes in the existing one and insert some rebar, which is then cast in. But they won't be anchored in the existing footing just by inserting them (right?), so how do you do it?
For what TS is going to do, it's perfectly fine to scrape with the irons you plan to put there, which will loosen anything slightly loose on the inside of the hole. Then vacuum and/or blow with compressed air.
There are those who have read an instruction once and then take it as universal truth regardless of situation or application. It doesn't hurt to be careful, but you need to know when it's necessary and when it's not. If you're brushing, use a brush that can be likened to a pipe cleaner type.

Yes, and there you have to understand that just because he says blow 4 times, there will be situations where you need to blow and clean more. So the essence of the film is that you shouldn’t forget to clean. It's also a bit comical that it's not the fasteners he made in the film that he then tests..
The point is that you don’t need to run around town buying a new brush, etc., your vacuum cleaner and compressed air are enough when you're just anchoring a new casting. Hardly like you're going to hang something heavy from a ceiling. But it seems people sometimes have a hard time understanding that.

It is probably best to do (and teach) as one SHOULD do to achieve the pull-out value specified in the datasheet. There is a very big difference in pull-out value if done correctly or incorrectly.
Blow clean, brush, blow clean x times depending on the anchor compound.
