Hi, new here and there won't be a flood of building themes here. However, I hope someone can give a comprehensible answer to my question.
I am wondering if it is possible to cast new "foundation piers" under existing ones. There is a started three-story house that possibly could use a bit more ceiling height on the ground floor, and an English colleague explained to me, though they haven't seen the house in question, that so-called "underpinning" could be applied. This would involve casting new piers under the existing ones and then removing the old ones to gain their height.
Personally, I feel that it sounds both difficult and concerning to make sure the house does not move at any time and to ensure the foundation under the new castings is equally reliable and stable. But I have no knowledge at all, so maybe it isn't a problem.
Perhaps some information is missing to answer the question, but if so, please say what is needed. I am including a picture. The house is not in Sweden but in a country where cold is not a concern if that matters.
