Hello

I am going to replace a canopy between two houses. Brick facade on both walls where the beams will be attached. The old one is dismantled, and the beams in the brick were attached with plugs and bolts. Feels a bit insufficient, but it only needs to support downward force. The size of the roof will/is 4x4 meters.
Should I try to find the studs behind the brick or should I use facade plugs or something similar?
The old one has been in place for 30 years with 5 screws on each side.

Hello

I am going to replace a canopy between two houses. Brick facade on both walls where the beam lines will be attached. The old one is demolished and the beam lines in the brick were attached with plugs and French screws. Feels a bit skimpy, but it only has to hold for downward pressure. The size of the roof will be/was 4x4 meters.
Should you try to find the studs inside the brick or should you use facade plugs or something similar?

Do we really need to answer this?

Yes, the answer may seem predictable...
The old roof was misdimensioned and poorly constructed in so many ways that I became a bit hesitant. The person who built the old roof doesn't seem to have put much thought into what he built, but the attachment to the wall might have been the only thing that was right?

Now I have replaced the joists. The old ones were practically not fastened, which made me a bit concerned. But I bought facade plugs with countersunk heads 10x140. I bought both expensive brand name plugs at Beijer and cheap noname ones at Byggmax. The expensive ones gripped like crazy and hold like a rock, and so do the cheap ones. However, the torx head didn't quite hold on the cheap ones when I used a screwdriver. The more expensive plug had a larger torx head. But now the joists are firmly in the brick wall. I can really recommend facade plugs! (I don't know if I'm allowed to mention brands, so I'll refrain)
