Hi,

I am installing a shower corner in the bathroom and need to drill 8 holes through the tiles. I managed on the wall with concrete behind the tiles. But on the other wall made of tiles and gypsum, I can only go in 23mm with the drill bit before I hit something really hard. The wall plugs that came with the shower are 28mm in length.

The pipes hang on the wall and are therefore not inside the wall.

I have used a tile drill bit to get through the tiles and then a 6mm SDS-plus concrete drill bit afterwards.

What should I do?

If you are on a rebar, switching to a metal drill bit can help (but it gets significantly dulled by all the concrete dust)

(Was thinking of the concrete wall - didn't read properly that it was the other one. Then I agree with Oceanis below)

23 mm in the drywall means you have drilled through the tile and drywall and now have a wooden board or steel stud that you are trying to drill into. An SDS concrete drill won't work on either of these. In a gypsum/wood wall, you should screw into the wooden board with silicone in the holes, assuming you have plywood behind the drywall; otherwise, there must be a nogging behind it. You should never drill through and use a plug in such a wall when you have a waterproof membrane behind it. You should only drill through the tile and then fill the hole with silicone to fasten to the underlying boards or nogging.

I hope you are aware of how to mount in a shower space with a waterproof membrane behind!
