Hello,

We are thinking of tiling an area around the sink in the basement bathroom where it has been painted with silicate paint. Can you tile directly on this, or do you need to sand off the paint first?

The plan is to do a painter's wash and then possibly a binding agent before tiling.

This is what it looks like:

The idea here is to tile from the floor up to just below the mirror and let the tiles extend about 10 cm on each side of the sink.

Wash and prime before just, sounds a bit too much to tile all the way down from floor level, isn't it enough between the sink and the mirror?

Yes, that would have been convenient, but the problem is that the sink has a dumb design and we don't know how long we will keep this sink, so I don't want to cut tiles based on this shape. Therefore, I'm thinking of putting tiles behind the sink as well. But maybe it's unnecessary to go all the way down to the floor?

How would you handle the side? Would you tile there too? It's a dead space there of about 10-15 cm.

Yes, a bit unnecessary. Extend a bit under the sink and the width according to the width you might have in the future or the same as the current sink.

The problem with that is that there will be a gap between the cabinet and the wall where the tiling ends, so it's probably nicer to go all the way down to the floor for that reason.

Nothing you'll be bothered by. Looks worse with tiles all the way down I think...

The problem is that inside by the wall to the right, there tends to be drops quite far down on the wall, and it is very difficult to remove this from a silicate wall, so we thought it was better to go all the way down to the floor.

A few drops or splashes won't harm the wall.

No, that's true, but the problem is that the water sometimes contains dirt, making it difficult to remove from the wall. Since we have the pellet burner quite close here, we often wash our hands there after cleaning, and it can easily get sooty unfortunately. Do you really think it looks so bad to put it from the floor up to a little bit below the mirror and then on both walls?

Matter of taste, would never have done so myself and have never seen that solution either. There is durable wall paint that is easy to wipe clean otherwise.
